William H. Barton (Canada) is retired from a notable career with the Department of External Affairs, which spanned over thirty years. Barton served in the R.A.F. and was seconded to External Affairs in 1952. With the Ministry, he assumed several senior positions both in Canada and abroad, including Under-Secretary of State for External Affairs in 1970, and Canadian Ambassador to the United States from 1976-1980. Barton is an active member of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, as well as Chair of the Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security.
