Sir Anthony Parsons (UK) is retired from a long and varied career in the British Diplomatic Service. After graduation from Balliol College, Oxford, and service in H.M. Forces from 1940-1954, Sir Anthony joined the Diplomatic Service as an expert in the Middle East. During twenty years with the Foreign Office, he was posted to British Embassies in Ankara, Amman, Cairo, Khartoum and Bahrain. From 1974 to 1979, he was British Ambassador to Iran, and from 1982 to 1983, he was Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on foreign affairs. Sir Anthony is the author of The Pride and the Fall and They Say the Lion. He has been a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter since 1984.
