International jurist and teacher. After graduating, he began teaching law at Osgoode Hall, Western Ontario, and then University of Toronto, where he was dean of law 1967-72. He then returned to Dalhousie as professor of international law and dean, holding the latter post until 1979. He served as arbitrator in the Republic of Cyprus 1974-78, and was an adviser and consultant to the prime minister’s office and to external affairs.
