Robert MacNeil (Canada) is best known for his prominent role in American broadcasting. After beginning his career with CBC radio and television in Halifax, MacNeil moved to the USA in 1963. He served in London, Washington, and New York as foreign correspondent for NBC before becoming senior correspondent for the National Public Affairs Center for Television in Washington, in 1971. MacNeil is currently co-anchor and producer of the Emmy Award-winning The MacNeil/Lehrer Report and The MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour, which are highly respected for their erudite coverage of American and international affairs. MacNeil has received the George Foster Peabody Award from the University of Georgia, the Dupont Award from the Columbia School of Broadcasting (both in 1970) and an Emmy Award in 1974.
